The Phoenixville Area School District announced this week that two unique individuals will be inducted into the Phoenixville Area School District’s Wall of Fame.  Ceremonies are slated for Tuesday, May 6, 2008 in the auditorium of Phoenixville Area High School at 7:00 PM.

The first inductee will be Vincent G. Daher. Mr. Daher was a graduate of Bridgeport High School and attended the University of Florida and Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster Pennsylvania.

Mr. Daher began his teaching and coaching career in the Downingtown Area School District. In 1951 Mr. Daher came to the Phoenixville Area School District as a teacher of Social Studies and assistant football coach at the high school level.

Mr. Daher became head football and baseball coach and guided Phoenixville to its first ever Chest-Mont League title in football and  baseball divisional championship.

Mr. Daher continued his professional education at Temple University, where he earned a Master’s Degree. This degree enabled Mr. Daher to become Social Studies Department Chairman, Athletic Director, Assistant Principal, and finally high school principal. Mr. Daher strived on a daily basis to improve the academics, and scholastic environment of Phoenixville Area High School.

As noted on his Wall of Fame plaque, “Mr. Daher was well known as a friend of Phoenixville  and was loved by the thousands who had the good fortune to know him as a teacher, coach, colleague or friend.”

The district’s second inductee is also a long time resident of Phoenixville.  Mr. Donald J. L. Coppedge was born  and raised in Phoenixville. He is a graduate of Phoenixville Area High School Class of 1951. While in high school he played football, basketball, baseball, and was a member of the Junior Red Cross. Upon graduation he enlisted in the United States Army and served in Germany.

In 1970 Mr. Coppedge was appointed Executive Director of an independent YMCA. He later served as President and Chief Executive of the YMCA in Phoenixville.

Mr. Coppedge also served on many community boards such as Grimes AME Church (Trustee), New Century Bank, NAACP, Habitat for Humanity, Kiwanis Club, and the Phoenixville Area Progressive Club to name a few of the many organizations.

Phoenixville Area School District encourages all friends, family, and former students to please join us in honoring Mr. Daher and Mr. Coppedge for their unselfish service to the greater Phoenixville community. Immediately following the induction ceremony, a reception honoring the inductees will be held in the high school cafeteria.
