Members of Friends of the Forgotten, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness of Prisoners of War (POW) and military personnel listed as Missing in Action (MIA), biked in to Schuylkill Elementary School on Veterans' Day, Tuesday, November 11, 2008, for a ceremony honoring the men and women who serve our country.
Students - American flags waving in the breeze - gathered on the hill behind the school to watch as the Friends rode onto the playground on motorcycles. A ceremony followed in the school's all-purpose room where Schuylkill's K-Kids led the school in the Pledge Of Allegiance, and members of Friends of the Forgotten presented Schuylkill Elementary School Principal Dr. Frank Garritano with a POW Flag which will be flown outside the school building.
