School-Parent Compact

Barkley Elementary School

The Barkley Elementary School, and the parents of the students participating in activities, services, and programs funded by Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), agree that this compact outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improving student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help students achieve the State’s high standards.

This school-parent compact is in effect during the school year 2024-2025.

School Responsibilities
The Barkley Elementary School will:

1. Set high standards in reading and math by providing high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that will enable students to meet the challenging State academic standards.

2. Provide a safe, positive, and healthy educational climate for academic growth.

3. Support students who have not met grade-level proficiency on state standardized assessments.

4. There will be a shared responsibility between parents, staff, and students to improve students’ academic achievement. The school will provide clear expectations for academic achievement and growth. 

5. Educate teachers and instructional support personnel in the value and contributions of parents/family members and how to reach out and communicate with families as equal partners to ensure a continued relationship between parents, family members, and the school. 

6. provide access to additional reading and math material for all students. The school will provide materials and training to help parents work with their children to improve their children’s achievement, such as literacy training or using technology to enhance learning. 

7. conduct an annual meeting in September in which all parents and family members of participating children will be invited and encouraged to attend. During this meeting, the program requirements and the rights for parents to be involved will be explained. All parents of qualifying students will receive a formal letter in Fall of each school year. This letter will explain the Title I program and provide details regarding the content area in which the child will be receiving additional support. 

8. provide parents with information in a variety of ways regarding the curriculum. The school will help parents understand the State academic standards as well as helping them understand State and local academic assessments. The school will work with parents to monitor their children’s progress and work with teachers to improve the achievement of their children. Some of the methods used to communicate this information will include the annual meeting, formal letters, as well as access to the curriculum through the district website. 

9. offer a flexible number of meetings to discuss student progress. Meeting will be held during the fall and mid-year parent conferences, as well as whenever requested by parents to ensure that parents are actively involved in educational decisions related to their children. The school will provide frequent reports to parents on their child’s progress every marking period.

10. involve parents in the development of the Parent-School Compact outlining how the entire school staff, parents, and students will share in the responsibility for improved student academic achievement. Parents and family members will also be involved in the planning, review, and improvement of the Title I program by soliciting feedback through an annual survey and using those responses

11. treat each child with dignity and respect and instill a tolerance of differences.

12. coordinate and integrate programs and activities with other Federal, State and local programs on parent involvement that encourage and support parents and family members to more fully participating in the education of their children.

13. the school will encourage parent volunteers to attend workshops and volunteer after school at school functions. Ensure that information related to school/parent programs, meetings, and other activities is sent to families in a format and language that all can understand. 

14. The school encourages and provides opportunities for all families to participate by accommodating the familes with limited English proficiency, disabilities, or migrant children. 

Phoenixville Area Early Learning Center

The Phoenixville Area Early Learning Center, and the parents of the students participating in activities, services, and programs funded by Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), agree that this compact outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improving student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help students achieve the State’s high standards.

This school-parent compact is in effect during the school year 2024-2025.

School Responsibilities
The Phoenixville Early Learning Center will:

1. treat each child with dignity and respect and instill a tolerance of differences.

2. provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the children served under this part to meet the challenging State academic standards.

3. provide a safe, positive, and healthy educational climate for academic growth. Educate teachers and instructional support personnel in the value and contributions of parents/family members and how to reach out and communicate with families as equal partners to ensure that ties are built between parents, family members and the school.

4. support students who are not proficient on standardized assessments to improve their achievement.

5. partner with all parents for the success of their children. Provide clear  descriptions of the school’s curriculum, the academic assessments used to measure progress, and expectations for achievement levels based upon the challenging State academic standards

6. support and encourage students to select books at their independent level. Provide access to additional reading material for all students and training/activities to help parents  work with their children to improve their children’s achievement

7. conduct an annual meeting in September, to explain the requirements and the rights for parents to be involved. All parents and family members of participating children will be invited and encouraged to attend. All parents of qualifying students will receive a formal letter in the Fall of each school year; in a timely fashion. This letter will explain the Title 1 program and provide details regarding the content area in which the child will be receiving additional support.

8. provide parents with information in a variety of ways regarding the curriculum and assessments used. Some of the methods used to communicate this information will include the annual meeting, formal letters, as well as access to the curriculum through the district website.

9. offer a flexible number of meetings in the morning and or evening with families to discuss student progress during the fall and mid-year parent conferences during which the compact shall be discussed as the compact relates to the individual child’s achievement. These meetings can also occur whenever requested by parents to ensure that parents are actively involved in educational decisions related to their children. The school will provide frequent reports to parents on their child’s progress every marking period ensuring meaningful communication in a language that family members can understand

10. involve parents and family members in the development of the Parent-School Compact outlining how the entire school staff, parents, and students will share in the responsibility for improved student academic achievement. Parents and family members will also be involved in the planning, review, and improvement of the school’s Parent and Family Engagement Policy. The school will solicit feedback of the Title 1 program through an annual survey and use these responses to improve the Title 1 program.

11. encourage parents to volunteer at school and/or attend school functions. Ensure that information related to school/parent programs, meetings, and other activities is sent to families in a format and language that all can understand.

12. integrate parent involvement programs/activities with other Federal, State, and local programs that encourage and support parents’ participation in the education of their children.

13. encourage and provide opportunities for all parents and family members to participate. The school will accommodate families with limited English proficiency, parents and family members with disabilities, and parents and family members of migratory children. 
 
Parent Responsibilities

We, as parents, will support our children’s learning in the following ways:

1. make sure they attend school regularly, are on time, and prepared to learn with homework completed.
2. partner in their education.
3. encourage and participate in daily reading with my child.
4. partner with school by reviewing and responding to all communications and attending school conferences and functions.
5. notify the staff promptly should my child need assistance with meeting academic standards.
6. make informed and correct commentary and will not feed into negative publicity (support the school.)
7. give my child permission to obtain a library card and encouragement to bring reading materials from the library into the home.
8. promote positive use of my child’s time outside of school.
9. contact classroom teachers to express any academic related concerns.
Student Responsibilities

I, as a Title I student, will share the responsibility to improve my academic achievement and achieve the State’s high standards.  Specifically, I will:

1. come to school on time and be ready to learn.
2. pay attention to my teachers and family, and ask questions when I need help.
3. read by myself or ask someone in my family to read to me or with me for 15-30 minutes each day.
4. complete my homework on time and do my best work.
5. give to my parents or guardian all information and notices that I receive at school.
