Barkley Elementary School
The Barkley Elementary School, and the parents of the students participating in activities, services, and programs funded by Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), agree that this compact outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improving student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help students achieve the State’s high standards.
This school-parent compact is in effect during the school year 2024-2025.
School Responsibilities
The Barkley Elementary School will:
1.
Set high standards in reading and math by providing high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that will enable students to meet the challenging State academic standards.
2.
Provide a safe, positive, and healthy educational climate for academic growth.
3.
Support students who have not met grade-level proficiency on state standardized assessments.
4.
There will be a shared responsibility between parents, staff, and students to improve students’ academic achievement. The school will provide clear expectations for academic achievement and growth.
5.
Educate teachers and instructional support personnel in the value and contributions of parents/family members and how to reach out and communicate with families as equal partners to ensure a continued relationship between parents, family members, and the school.
6.
provide access to additional reading and math material for all students. The school will provide materials and training to help parents work with their children to improve their children’s achievement, such as literacy training or using technology to enhance learning.
7.
conduct an annual meeting in September in which all parents and family members of participating children will be invited and encouraged to attend. During this meeting, the program requirements and the rights for parents to be involved will be explained. All parents of qualifying students will receive a formal letter in Fall of each school year. This letter will explain the Title I program and provide details regarding the content area in which the child will be receiving additional support.
8.
provide parents with information in a variety of ways regarding the curriculum. The school will help parents understand the State academic standards as well as helping them understand State and local academic assessments. The school will work with parents to monitor their children’s progress and work with teachers to improve the achievement of their children. Some of the methods used to communicate this information will include the annual meeting, formal letters, as well as access to the curriculum through the district website.
9.
offer a flexible number of meetings to discuss student progress. Meeting will be held during the fall and mid-year parent conferences, as well as whenever requested by parents to ensure that parents are actively involved in educational decisions related to their children. The school will provide frequent reports to parents on their child’s progress every marking period.
10.
involve parents in the development of the Parent-School Compact outlining how the entire school staff, parents, and students will share in the responsibility for improved student academic achievement. Parents and family members will also be involved in the planning, review, and improvement of the Title I program by soliciting feedback through an annual survey and using those responses

treat each child with dignity and respect and instill a tolerance of differences.
12.
coordinate and integrate programs and activities with other Federal, State and local programs on parent involvement that encourage and support parents and family members to more fully participating in the education of their children.
13.
the school will encourage parent volunteers to attend workshops and volunteer after school at school functions. Ensure that information related to school/parent programs, meetings, and other activities is sent to families in a format and language that all can understand.
14.
The school encourages and provides opportunities for all families to participate by accommodating the familes with limited English proficiency, disabilities, or migrant children.
