Welcome

It seems like just yesterday that the young women and men pictured above were students at Phoenixville Area High School.  The Class of 2019 has graduated and all are beginning their next journey – serving our country, in the working world and/or attending a post-secondary school.  As a class, they were amazing.  Their service, scholarship, arts and athletic accomplishments are many.  Collectively, they earned over 13.8 million dollars in academic scholarships.  All the accomplishments are theirs, but they would not have achieved them without all – the entire Phoenixville Community, Working Together to support these young people.  It does take a village!

This year, it is more important than ever for us, the community of Phoenixville Area School District, to work together to ensure all students in the District receive a quality education which meets the needs of the students.

To this end, this year’s theme is:
Together we can
Together we will
Together we are Phoenixville

Together we can and are making a difference in the lives of all students.  Phoenixville is unique among the area Districts.  Our richly diverse student population is reflective of the country, and I believe, one of our greatest strengths.  This diversity allows all students the opportunity to learn how to work together and learn about and from each other.  Phoenixville students are prepared to greet the world with open arms and seize opportunities because they know how to talk and work with people from other walks of life.  Together we will help all students grow to be productive members of society.

I look forward to the upcoming year as we continue our efforts to help all students reach their full potential.  Together we are Phoenixville.

May all have an outstanding academic year!

Alan D. Fegley, Ed.D.

Elementary World Language becomes STEM & Kicks Off Elementary World Language Immersion Study

For the past 8 years, PASD has been offering all students the opportunity to take Spanish.  As we evaluated educational needs this past year two conclusions were reached.

  • We need to do more work in the area of STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) at the elementary level
  • The Elementary World Language program was not achieving the goal of having all students ready to take a level 2 Spanish Course in 6th grade.

Thus, starting this year, STEM will replace Elementary World Language AND an intensive study will be undertaken to determine if it is feasible to implement an Immersion World Language Program at the elementary level beginning with the 2020-2021 school year.

To this end, we are looking for interested parents and staff to join the study / recommendation team.  The group will meet every 3 to 5 weeks and members of the study / recommendation team will present their findings to the Board of School Directors February 2020.  It is anticipated that the study group will either recommend or not recommend moving forward with a world language immersion program.  Further if the study group recommends implementation of world language immersion program, it should provide multiple options to the Board of School Directors on how to and what language(s) to implement.  The Board will consider the recommendations and vote on the recommendations at their April 2020 Board Meeting.

The first meeting of the study group will be Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at 6:30 PM.  Location to be determined.

If you are interested in joining this study group, please email Dr. Fegley at fegleya@pasd.com.
