The Phoenixville Board of School Directors completed its evaluation of Superintendent Missy McTiernan for the 2023-2024 school year in June 2024.  The Board determined that Mrs. McTiernan has met or exceeded the goals established in the District’s 2023-2024 Strategic Plan. The Board met with the Superintendent to discuss the evaluation.  Assistant Superintendent Dr. Jessica Kilmetz has also met or exceeded her established goals.

To the Phoenixville Area Community:

Over the past several months the world has seen a disturbing rise in incidents of hate, harassment, and intolerance. While we recognize there is much to be uncertain about right now, we want ourcommunity to be certain about one thing - we are 100% committed to maintaining a safe, welcoming environment for our students and families.

To that end, we, the members of the Phoenixville Area Board of School Directors share the
following values with the community to reiterate our commitment to ensuring all students and staff know that they belong here and the specific actions we will be taking to uphold this commitment:

• We work tirelessly to make all Phoenixville Area School District facilities safe spaces where
our diversity is valued and students are free to learn, grow, and thrive no matter who they
are, where they are from or who they love;

• The Phoenixville Area School District has no tolerance for acts of racism, sexism, bigotry, or
discrimination - and actions to the contrary will be dealt with swiftly in accordance with our
disciplinary code;

• Parents and community members serve as role models for our students and we expect them to act in a respectful manner at all district affiliated events;

• We are committed to supporting our students and staff and fostering an environment where they can be themselves and where feel comfortable sharing any concerns with building leadership or district administration;

• Our school counselors and mental health professionals are available to help any students
who may be feeling distress, anxiety, or just need someone to talk to;

• We will create an Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (EIB) Taskforce comprised of Board
Members, Students, Staff, and Community Members to continuously evaluate our progress
and make recommendations related to these issues;

• We will do a review of our EIB staff position to ensure the appropriate resources and training are available for the staff member to be successful;

• Receive regular Board updates from the administration and EIB coordinator to ensure we
are being proactive in supporting all members of our school community.

The Phoenixville Area School District community has so much to be proud of. We have tremendous students, staff, parents, administrators, and a supportive community that we know always has our back. We know that our community shares the values and ideals laid out in this letter and we appreciate everyone's work to live our motto that you, and everyone, belongs here.

Sincerely,
Scott Overland, Board President
